Andre T. Whittington is an award-winning executive, organizational strategist, and founder of Opemia Consulting. Over the last three years he has assisted his clients in experiencing over $3M in revenue growth and supported small to mid-size companies in scaling their business. In 2022 Andre partnered with Isom Global Strategies to take on the role of Small Business Coach with the SBA in Phoenix, AZ, and Albuquerque NM. As a Small Business Coach, he provided mentoring, support, and advisory council to small business owners. He also served as the Associate Director for Our Village United, Inc. in Atlanta, GA. Prior to his work with small businesses, Andre worked in Corporate America leading learning & development teams, performance management strategies, and organizational development initiatives that directly impacted a workforce of over 30K employees. During his time in Corporate America, he successfully managed operational budgets of $4M+, managed remote teams of 30+ team members located both domestically and internationally, and implemented innovative operational solutions resulting in over $1M in cost savings.

 

Chelsea Smith, COO and co-founder of HUUB


Chelsea Smith is the COO and co-founder of HUUB. She is a former entrepreneur, having founded and run her own Pilates studio in Phoenix, Arizona. After transitioning away from her entrepreneurial roots, she shifted into community advocacy and led the grassroots nonprofit organization, the Urban Phoenix Project. Chelsea joined the CO+HOOTS team in February 2020 and transitioned to her role with HUUB during the pandemic. She brings her passion for purpose-driven work and love for supporting local businesses to the HUUB communities.

Chelsea has an extensive, first-hand understanding of the day-to-day challenges of running a small business. She is on a mission to help entrepreneurs overcome obstacles and reach success. Drawing from her own experiences, Chelsea produces thoughtful and engaging programs for the CO+HOOTS and HUUB communities. She works closely with the HUUB product development team to ensure the platform is easy to use, data-driven and drives connection between government partners, community stakeholders and small businesses. Her commitment to advocacy has laid the groundwork needed to create a more inclusive and equitable ecosystem. Chris Miller is chair and one of the founding board members of the National Coalition for Community Capital, a 501c3. Chris has been working on economic and entrepreneur development for nearly 20 years in a variety of roles, including as an appointed and elected city official, and as a community economic developer. Jason received his bachelor's in International Affairs and Spanish, and his master's in Sustainable Communities from Northern Arizona University. He worked as a community organizer with the Industrial Areas Foundation for 9 years. He returned to Arizona in 2020 to make it his family's home. Since joining Local First Arizona in 2022 as the Director of Sustainability Initiatives, Jason has worked to increase the reach and impact of Local First Arizona’s statewide sustainability programs — the Green Business Boot Camp, Green Business Certification, and Green Lending Products, which support businesses and rural communities to save money by adopting sustainable practices.

John Giles, Mayor, City of Mesa

John Giles is the 40th mayor of Mesa, Arizona, first elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2016 and 2020. He oversees a growing economy that has added tens of thousands of new jobs, billions of dollars in capital investment, and employers like Apple, Amazon, Google and Meta.

Under his leadership, Mesa adopted a nondiscrimination ordinance, implemented a Climate Action Plan, and established the Mesa College Promise, connecting qualified high school graduates with free community college education.

Jonatan Amastal, Community Assistant and Designer, CO+HOOTS

Born in Puebla, Mexico, Jonatan migrated to the United States at the age of 7 with his family in search of a better life. The journey was long and challenging, as they faced language barriers, cultural differences, and the struggles of adapting to a new environment. However, they were determined to make the most of their opportunity and worked hard to achieve their goals.

With the help of CO+HOOTS Institute for entrepreneurship, Jonatan was able to launch his own graphic design company focus on providing branding and graphic design services to immigrant’s self-starters. He has also worked with the Downtown Mesa association to design banners that demonstrates the city everchanging environment.
Jonatan works with CO+HOOTS as their community assistant and designer. Working alongside the Community and program manager to help students in their entrepreneurial journey as well as provide any other assistance they may need to help them reach success.

 

Keisha McKinnor, Founder/CEO, MKUU

Keisha A. McKinnor is an entrepreneur, nonprofit and community leader. Living by the mantra that our experiences, skills, and gifts are not solely for individual benefit but for contributing to others, she is passionate about giving back to the community and founded a nonprofit, MKUU.

He is also the co-founder of Straw and Wool Hat Store and Grassrootz Books and Juice Bar. Archwood Exchange was established in 2016 by a group of entrepreneurs and organizers with a goal of increasing the presence and vitality of Black-Owned businesses in Arizona. In May of 2017, Archwood Exchange began hosting monthly community gatherings known as “The Buy Black Marketplace”. Through the monthly marketplaces, educational opportunities and growing network, Archwood Exchange has been able to support the growth and development of over 200 black owned businesses in the Phoenix Metro Service Area.
